What the Rwenzori Marathon means for Uganda’s tourism
The Rwenzori Marathon is a fantastic initiative for not only the tourism industry but for Uganda at large. The marathon will put Uganda on the map as a tourism destination and a center for sports tourism. The marathon will contribute significantly to the economy of Uganda in many ways as visitors to Uganda will book hotels, book transport, work with tour operators to plan their logistics and also support the locals in the different towns leading to the marathon. Neighboring towns and cities like Fort Portal will benefit from runners and visitors staying at hotels and lodges.
The marathon also exposes visitors to other destinations within Uganda that they can visit either before or after the marathon. Visitors can choose to go gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after the marathon, other can choose to visit Kibale National Park for the chimpanzees while others can opt for cultural day tours near Kasese.
All in all the Rwenzori Marathon 2025 is a great initiative and kudos to Amos Wekesa for pushing this great idea to the stage it currently is at.
