My lovely stay at ACK Guest House Mombasa

I arrived at ACK Guest House on a hot sunny afternoon, tired from a long journey from Nairobi on the SGR Kenya train. The guest house was my base for my first night in Mombasa as I looked forward to my beach vacation in Diani, Kenya.

I had booked this budget guest house in Mombasa a month prior and I went off its proximity to the Likoni Ferry. I knew that the journey by train from Nairobi to Mombasa was going to be a long one and I needed a hotel in Mombasa for the first night to allow me relax before heading for my beach vacation at Swahili Beach Resort

I had such a lovely time at this guest house and in this article I will share a recap of my stay at ACK Guest House Mombasa.

My room at ACK Guest House Mombasa

This trip was a solo vacation room for me so I booked a single self-contained room. My room exceeded my expectations because being a budget guest house, I expected a small room with basic amenities however the room was larger than I expected.

A bed with white bed sheets

My room had a large 4 x 6 bed with white linen bed sheets and a duvet. I had a reading desk and chair, large windows that would let in enough natural light and a shared balcony. The room was surrounded by trees and a beautiful well-maintained compound. I loved the arrangement of the stone walkways along the lush compound. The environment felt refreshing and being tired after the journey, I took a nap to rest in the quiet environment.

My room also had a basic bowl sink, a flush toilet, toilet paper, bathing soap and a shower. The bathroom was large enough however the bathroom tiles were slippery so the best way to use it is with slippers that have a firm base. I had a good night’s sleep in my room and I liked that the guest house was quiet, especially the side of the rooms.

Restaurant at ACK Guest House

Being a budget property, the guest house has one restaurant. The restaurant however has different sitting areas so I found it to be well-arranged. They had outdoor seating, indoor seating and a lounge area. After my afternoon nap, I had dinner at the restaurant.

I wasn’t very hungry so I ordered french fries and sausages. My dinner was tasty and I liked that the meal came in under 15 minutes.I sat outside, had my dinner while enjoying views of the night sky in Mombasa. Being on vacation, I was taking in every moment of my stay. The restaurant menu was affordable and they had good options on their menu, something for everyone. After I finished my dinner, I retired to my room for some much needed rest.

Breakfast at ACK Guest House Mombasa

I am a lover of breakfast so I especially love a good hotel breakfast and ACK Guest House gave me exactly that. I woke up at around 8:00 am and headed to the restaurant for my breakfast, the guest house serves a continental breakfast.

So I had coffee, tamarind juice, cereal, milk, eggs of choice, mahamri(local breakfast snack), sweet potatoes, sausage and fruits. I liked the breakfast and I mostly liked the local breakfast snack because the waitress told me it is usually had by locals for breakfast, this is a nice addition as you indulge in having something that the locals eat as part of their meals. The tamarind juice was also a hit – vert tangy and refreshing.

Other parts of the guest house;

The guest house has a lounge, a reception with their main office, a parking area, a swimming pool, a meeting hall and 24 hour security. ACK Guest House Mombasa is run and managed by the Anglican church.

The staff at ACK Guest House

I think for me travel has always been about the people and I liked how professional and helpful the staff at ACK were. From the moment I booked, the response was timely and all the information was communicated via WhatsApp. I also arrived and was warmly welcomed by the staff, they helped me with my bags and made sure that I checked in smoothly. The waitresses at the restaurant were great both at dinner and breakfast, they explained the meals to me and one of them told me about the local breakfast snack and how its made. I would return just because of how well I was treated during my stay.

All in all ACK Guest House Mombasa is a good budget guest house with basic amenities that you would expect from a budget property. The staff are amazing and the location is perfect. I got to explore more of Mombasa because the Likoni Ferry was a short walk away from the guest house which made it easy for me to move around.

Where is ACK Guest House Mombasa located?

The guest house is located along Shelly beach road in Mombasa, Kenya. It is located 5 minutes away from the Likoni Ferry and about 40 minutes away from the SGR Kenya Mombasa terminus. It is within walking distance to the Likoni Ferry.
