
Café Kibale
Café Kibale is a recently opened café by Uganda Lodges Limited located in Kibale National Park and is a great stop for a cup of coffee while in the park. The café is a community based café that focuses on bringing authentic coffee to visitors and is also involved in community projects aimed at training youth in the communities surrounding Kibale National Park. The café trains youth and prepares them to work in the hospitality industry, different training programs empower the youth to work and earn an income as they go on to work at the café and in other lodges and establishments across the country as chefs, barristers and waiters.
Café Kibale is situated at Kanyanchu visitor centre so it’s easily accessible for a coffee stop either in the morning before your trek or after returning from your chimpanzee trek. Café Kibale is open daily from 7:00 am – 4:30 pm so it can also work for visitors who might not be in Kibale National Park for park activities but would like to stop by the café for a quick cup of coffee before proceeding with their journeys.
The café has ample seating areas both inside and outside. One can choose to sit outside on the front porch overlooking Kibale Forest or sit inside. The beauty about Café Kibale is that the indoor seating area is open so you are still able to have your coffee while enjoying the lush surroundings of Kibale Forest, Café Kibale is elegantly decorated with a touch of African inspired décor pieces and earthy colors that make the café warm and cozy. The staff at the café are friendly and welcoming and committed to bringing a great experience to their visitors.

For the traveler who would like to purchase some souvenirs or gifts, Café Kibale offers great pieces in their craft shop which is situated on the same building as the café. The craft shop displays a number of locally sourced items like baskets, beaded jewelry, Ankara cloths, weaved wall art pieces, locally produced Ugandan coffee, artsy key holders, “kitenge” hats, handmade bags and wood carvings among others. The colorful craft shop has a number of items so the choice on what to purchase depends on what catches your eye.

Café Kibale has a reasonable menu that one would expect from a café. The menu consists of different meals that can be made quickly on order. The menu has full meals, a snacks section, a sweet treats section and a drinks section. The snacks section includes masala chips, potato chips, samosas and homemade soup and chapatti. The sweat treats on the menu include mandazi (a deep fried Ugandan local breakfast treat made with flour and sugar), cookies and muffins.
The full meals include the Kibale burger which is served with potato chips, the bean burger which is also served with potato chips, the traditional rolex meal which is a famous Ugandan sweet food and the roadside chicken meal which is made of skewered pieces of seasoned chicken served with plantain and sauce. There is also the bowl of goodness meal which serves as an option for vegetarians and its made of local seasonal vegetables, grains, salads and sliced avocado served with Ugandan egg roll and tahini dressing.
The drinks sections on the menu consists of coffee, fresh juice, lemonade, sodas, water, African tea, dawa tea, herbal tea, black tea, smoothie, hot chocolate, bottle bear and a bottle of wine can be ordered off the drinks section. The food at the café is freshly made on site so one is assured of a tasty fresh meal while visiting.

How to get to Café Kibale
Café Kibale is accessed by road from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda along the Mubende – Fort Portal highway. The drive from Kampala to the café/park is 5 hours, the scenic drive takes you through the beautiful landscape of Uganda.
If you are staying and connecting from Fort portal town Café Kible is a 40 minute -1 hour drive away from Fort Portal. The drive is along the Fort Portal – Kamwenge road.
