3 Days Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking Safari
Duration
Overview
Located in South-western Uganda, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is a diversity haven national park well known as the second home to the mountain gorillas in Uganda. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is Uganda’s smallest national park and although most visitors opt for the famous Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the gorillas, this small national park is worth visiting as it is a small but very intimate national park.
Mgahinga Gorilla National park was established as Gorilla game sanctuary in 1930 but later achieved national park status in 1991. The park boasts of 76 mammal species and 180 species of birds, 24 of these species are considered to be endemic to the Albertine Rift region. Birding enthusiasts on a bird watching tour in Uganda usually add Mgahinga Gorilla National Park as a site to visit because of its rich bird life.
A gorilla trekking safari in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is a fulfilling adventure that brings you closer to the gentle giants amidst a thick rain forest. We usually recommend this Mgahinga tour for visitors who would like a much easier hike compared to Bwindi national park and for visitors looking to add golden monkey trekking to their tour. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the only place where one can trek the golden monkeys in Uganda.
