3 Days Lake Mburo National Park Wildlife Safari

Duration

Overview

Lake Mburo National Park is a small savanna park located in western Uganda and is what one would refer to as a hidden wildlife haven. This small savanna park is rich in bio-diversity with abundant wildlife and spectacular views of open savanna grassland, while here you can stand atop the rocky outcrops in the park and have expansive views of Uganda.

Lake Mburo National Park is usually added as a stop over by visitors on the way to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the gorilla trekking adventure but the park shouldn’t be just a stopover as it has so much to offer. Lake Mburo National Park is also perfect for visitors who would like a short trip to experience Uganda before leaving as the park is very accessible and just a 4 hours’ drive from the city center. Your tour starts with pick up from your hotel in Kampala city, Kampala is Uganda’s capital city and a main starting point for safaris in Uganda. If you are accessing Uganda via Entebbe International Airport we can book the hotel for you for the first night and arrange pick up from the airport as well. After meeting your driver guide at the hotel at 7:00am you will have a briefing session that is rather short which includes introductions. You then start the journey to Lake Mburo National Park, expect to see a number of things along the way like local shops, local people going about their day and spectacular landscape. On arrival you will be transferred to your lodge for overnight. Journey time: 4 hours Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner Accommodation: Mihingo Lodge (Luxury), Rwakobo Rock (Mid-range), Eagle's Nest (Budget)
Lake Mburo offers excellent game viewing across the open savanna while on a game drive in the park. The guided morning game drive will start as early as 6:00am and you will explore different trails with your driver guide which include the impala and zebra tracks to the swamps and lake where animals usually come in the dry season to drink water after feeding. Wildlife to look out for include the majestic Rothschild’s giraffe, Common eland, large herds of Zebra, African Buffaloes, Warthogs, Olive baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Uganda kobs, Water bucks, Bush buck, Klip Springer, Impala and predators like Leopard, Serval and Hyenas however predator sightings are not very common since they exist in small numbers. In the afternoon you go on a boat ride on the stunning Lake Mburo which is the main fresh water body for animals in the park. The boat ride takes you across the lake as you look out for animals like the Nile crocodiles and hippos, water birds, papyrus endemic birds and other animals that like to come to the shores of the lake to drink water and feed on the fresh grass next to the lake shores. Prepare to capture some wonderful photos while on the boat ride. Water birds to look out for while on the boat include the elusive African finfoot, egrets, herons, African fish eagles, pied kingfishers and marabou storks. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Today you wake up to a scrumptious breakfast at the lodge after which you say your goodbyes to the lodge staff and then do one last morning game drive in the park before exiting the park. You then transfer back to Kampala with drop off at your hotel in Kampala or to Entebbe International Airport if your flight is on the same day. Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch
