This 3 days wildlife safari in Akagera national park offers incredible sightings of wildlife and the scenery of Akagera national park.

Akagera national park is located in the North Eastern Rwanda bordering with Tanzania and is well known for its spectacular views and is one of the most scenic national parks in Africa. The park has a diversity of wildlife and is home to the African Big Five animals that include Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino. Lions from South Africa and 18 black rhinos were recently re-introduced in to the park hence game drives offer you a chance to watch these animals. Other animals in the park include zebras, topi, eland, roan antelope, sitatunga, warthogs, giraffes, impala, klipspringer, oribi, bohor reed buck, defassa water buck and bush buck. This safari will offer you a game drive in the park and a boat ride on Lake Ihema.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and Transfer to Akagera National Park

You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali by your driver guide early this morning. You then start the journey to Akagera national park. The drive to the park is a scenic drive that takes you through the landscape of Rwanda and the beautiful scenery of the country side. On arrival you will transfer to your lodge check in and spend the rest of the day relaxing. Optional Activity: Night game drive – The night game drive is a great way to see the nocturnal animals that like to be active at night. The can be seen on a night game drive include hyenas, leopard, bush babies civets, genets, porcupine and aardvark. Birds include night jars and owls. Day 2: Game drives and Boat ride on Lake Ihema

After an early breakfast at the lodge you will set out for a game drive in Akagera national park. This game drive takes 6-7 hours as you explore Akagera national park looking out for wildlife sightings. Animals to look out for on the game drive include elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras, topi, eland, roan antelope, sitatunga, warthogs, giraffes, impala, klipspringer, oribi, bohor reed buck, defassa water buck, olive baboons and vervet monkeys among others. In the midst of the game drive your driver guide will take you to the hippo pool in the park where hippos usually like to hang out. After the game drive you go back to the lodge and have your lunch. In the afternoon you go on a boat ride on Lake Ihema which is the largest water body in the park. The boat ride offers an opportunity to look out for hippos, crocodiles, elephants and water birds. In addition the boat ride offers a relaxing experience as you take in the breeze of Lake Ihema and are treated to scenic views of Akagera national park. Lake Ihema is the main water source for animals in the park. After the boat ride you return to the lodge for dinner. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3: Game drive and Transfer back to Kigali

You will have breakfast at the lodge this morning, check out and head out for yet another game drive in the Akagera. You will look out for more animals before exiting the park. After the game drive you depart for Kigali arriving later in the day. You will be dropped off at your hotel in Kigali and this will mark the end of your 3 days wildlife safari.
