This one day safari takes you to Akagera National Park for a wildlife safari. Akagera National Park is the only savanna park in Rwanda.

Located in eastern Rwanda this park offers exceptional game viewing as you are able to look out for the Big Five that is Lion, Leopard, Elephant, buffalo and rhinos that were reintroduced in the park. Other animals in the park include zebras, topi, eland, roan antelope, sitatunga, warthogs, giraffes, impala, klipspringer, oribi, bohor reed buck, defassa water buck and bush buck. Primate species in the park include baboons, vervet monkeys and bush babies. Akagera national park is also home to hippos and crocodiles that are often seen while on a boat safari on Lake Ihema.

Pick up from Hotel in Kigali

You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali by your driver guide. The pickup time from the hotel is 5am so that you can hit the road early enough. Along with the driver guide you will then start the journey to Akagera National Park. The drive to the park is a scenic drive that takes you through the landscape of Rwanda and the beautiful scenery of the country side.

Game drives in Akagera National Park

On arrival at the park you will go on a game drive in the park where you will look out for wildlife including the African Big five that is lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard and other wildlife sightings. Other animals in the park include zebras, topi, eland, roan antelope, sitatunga, warthogs, giraffes, impala, klipspringer, oribi, bohor reed buck, defassa water buck and bush buck. The game drive will also offer you stunning views of the highlands over the vast savanna plains. This game drive takes about 6 hours. After the game drive you will have your packed lunch. If at all you have not packed lunch the driver guide will drive you to Akagera game lodge where you can order lunch. After lunch you will have another game drive in the park for more wildlife sightings after this you start the journey back arriving in Kigali in the late afternoon or early evening. Your driver guide will drop you off at the hotel as you end your 1 day wildlife safari. Please note that the package does not include lunch. We advise that you come with a packed lunch from your hotel in Kigali or plan to order lunch at Akagera Game Lodge. Journey time: 2½ Hours
