This 3 days Rwanda chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk tour will take you to Nyungwe forest national park. Nyungwe forest national park is located in the south western part of Rwanda. Nyungwe forest is one of the oldest rain forest in Africa and the forest is home to the chimpanzees in Rwanda.

Nyungwe forest national park has 75 species of mammals including 13 primate species in the forest with the main primate being the chimpanzees. Other primate species in Nyungwe include Red-tailed Monkey, Vervet Monkey, Silver Monkey, Olive Baboon, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, L’Hoest’s Monkey, Rwenzori Colobus and Dent’s Mona Monkey.

Tour Plan

On this day you will be picked up from your hotel by your driver guide. You then start the travel journey to Nyungwe forest national park. The drive takes you through the beautiful scenery of Rwanda that is referred to as “the land of a thousand hills.” On arrival you proceed to the lodge for overnight. Journey time: 6 hours Accommodation: One and Only Nyungwe House (Luxury), Nyungwe Top View Lodge (Mid-range), E.A.R Guest House (Budget) Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner
After breakfast at your lodge this morning your driver guide will transfer you to the briefing area at the park offices in Nyungwe. Here you will meet with your ranger guide who will tell you about the guidelines for the chimp trek and what to expect from the trek. After the briefing you transfer to the starting point and begin your chimpanzee trek. The chimp trek in Rwanda is a rewarding experience that brings you closer to these primates that are known as man’s closest relatives. Once you locate the chimpanzees you get to watch them as they hop around in the forest and take some amazing photos of them. After this you return back to the starting point. In the afternoon you will go on a guided canopy walk in Nyungwe forest along the Igishigishigi Trail. The walk takes you through the forest as you see bird life, colorful butterflies, orchids and small predators like squirrels. You might also sight some monkeys along the trail. The canopy walk is an interesting experience as you walk along a 70m high suspension bridge as you are treated to scenic views of Nyungwe forest giving you a true jungle experience. After the walk you return to the lodge for dinner. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner  
After breakfast you will travel back to Kigali. You will stop at Huye and visit the ethnographic museum for a look in to the culture and traditions of the Rwandan people. The ethnographic museum is part of the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda. After this you proceed with your journey to Kigali with a later drop off at your hotel. Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch
