3 Days Gorilla Habituation Experience Safari in Bwindi

Overview

The gorilla habituation experience safari in Uganda is one of the best wildlife encounters in Uganda. This 3 days safari brings one closer to the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Forest while allowing one to spend more time with the gorillas in the forest. Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi you are only allowed to spend one hour with the gorillas once you locate them but with the gorilla habituation experience you spend more time with the mountain gorillas starting the day early in the morning and ending the day in the evening.

The gorilla habituation is an experience that was introduced by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) allowing guests to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park more time with the gorillas. Bwindi national park is a diverse tropical rain forest park that covers an area of 321 square kilometres mainly made up of dense thick vegetation and that’s where the park derives its “impenetrable” name. Bwindi is home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas making it one of the best places in the world to see the mountain gorillas, the park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.

Tour Plan

On this day you will be picked up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe by your driver guide. After brief introductions and briefing you start the journey to Uganda’s most popular national park. You will stop over at the Equator line along the way, take some photos, if you are up to it pick up some souvenirs from the gift shops or grab a cup of coffee. You then continue the journey to Bwindi with a lunch stopover in Mbarara town. Bwindi is located in south-western Uganda. Journey time: 8 hours Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Accommodation: Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge (Luxury), Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge (Mid-range), Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge (Budget)
You start the day with an early breakfast at the lodge and a packed lunch will be given to you since most of the day will be spent in the forest. The gorilla habituation experience allows you to spend 4 hours with the gorillas in their natural habitat which is more time than the one hour spent with the primates on a gorilla trek. The gorilla habituation only happens in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi national park and only 4 individuals can do the habituation experience at a time. You have an opportunity to experience Bwindi forest as you look out for bird life, small mammals and invertebrates in the forest. The habituation experience is accompanied by a park ranger guide, trained park guides and researchers in the national park. After spending ample time with the gorillas watching them feed and move around the rain forest you then head back to the lodge for the night. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
After the rewarding gorilla habituation experience in Bwindi you will start the journey back to Kampala arriving later in the day. Your guide will then drop you off at your hotel or the airport for your flight back.
