1 Day Rhino Tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

This 1 day tour will take you to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary located in Nakasongola district in Uganda. The sanctuary is the only place in Uganda to track the rhinos. The rhinos are part of the African Big five and this one day tour offers you an opportunity to come closer to the rhinos. The reintroduction of the rhinos is a project by Rhino Fund Uganda and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary currently has 32 white rhinos.

Your tour starts with pickup by your driver guide from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala. You will then start the drive to Nakasongola district where Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is located. You will arrive at the sanctuary in the mid-morning and then head to the park offices which are the starting point for the trek. Here you will meet your ranger guide who will take you through the briefing and give you clear guidelines about the rhino trek.

You then begin the trek to meet the white rhinos along a well-beaten path/trail as you walk on foot. While you walk along the trail you might spot some bird species, animals like Uganda kobs, oribis, water bucks and bush bucks that live in the sanctuary. Once you locate the wild rhinos you will have sessions to take photos and also watch them as they feed and stroll in the sanctuary. On a hot day some of the rhinos will be resting under the trees escaping the scorching heat. The rhino trek might take between 2 to 3 hours depending on where the rhinos will be located. After this you transfer back to the park offices where your driver guide will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe.
