1 Day Jinja Tour to Source of the Nile, Sezibwa Falls and Mabira Forest

This 1 day Jinja tour will take you on a one day excursion out of the city. The tour is highly recommended for travelers who are on short stay in Uganda or have a few days left but would like to have an experience of Uganda.

The tour starts with pick up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe very early in the morning. The journey begins as early as 7:00 am so that you can hit the road early enough. The drive to Jinja is a scenic drive that takes you through the landscape of Uganda, the busy towns in the out skirts of Kampala and the sugar cane plantations along the way to Jinja town.

Sezibwa Falls Visit

Your first stop will be Sezibwa falls which is located 32 km along the Kampala – Jinja Highway. Sezibwa falls is a great eco-tourism and cultural site in Uganda that offers amazing views of the falls amidst a quiet, still and green natural environment. At the site you will be assigned a site guide who will take you on this excursion, the story about Sezibwa falls is quite unique and your guide will give you details on the story about the falls. The traditional legend of the falls is that there were two rives one named Sezibwa and the other Bwanda which were born by a woman. The Sezibwa falls offers a great sighting surrounded by the lush green vegetation as you watch the water drop over a height of 200 meters continuing its flow to Lake Kyoga.

Mabira Forest Reserve

After the experience at Sezibwa Falls you will head to Mabira forest reserve. Mabira Forest Reserve is located along the Kampala-Jinja highway and mainly consists of moist semi-deciduous forest, open grassland and papyrus swamps. The forest has about 200 tree species and about 300 species of birds. Here you will go on a guided nature walk in the forest where you look out for grey cheeked mangabeys, black-and-white colobus monkey and possibly the blue duiker. You will also spot some bird species as Mabira forest is a prime birding destination and various tree species.

Source of the River Nile

After the Mabira forest and Sezibwa falls experience you will continue with your journey to Jinja town which is also referred to as the adventure capital of East Africa. You will go on a boat cruise to the Source of the River Nile. At the source you will take photos and have spectacular views of Lake Victoria and Surroundings. The boat trip may also offers you sightings of bird life like cormorants, cattle egrets and kingfishers.

Lunch will be along the way. After the boat trip to the Source of the Nile, you will travel back to Kampala or Entebbe and your driver guide will drop you off at your hotel. This will mark the end of your one day tour.
