1 Day CTC Conservation Centre and Equator Monument Tour

CTC Conservation Center is the perfect choice if one is looking for an up close experience with wildlife but has a few days to spare and cannot make it to the national parks. CTC Conservation Center is located in Butambala in Mpigi district which is just one hour and 20 minutes away from Kampala city – Uganda’s capital making it easily accessible for a day trip and a great stop for visitors heading to the national parks. This one day trip takes you to CTC Conservation Center and The Equator monument in Uganda so you get an up close experience with wildlife and also an experience at one of Uganda’s top attractions – The Equator.

Detailed Itinerary

Your driver guide will pick you from your hotel or residence in Kampala at 7:00 am, it’s important to start the day early so as to beat the traffic along the way.

After exchanging greetings you start the journey to CTC Conservation Center which is located in Butambala a few kilometers from Mpigi town. On arrival at the conservation center you will go on a 3 hour tour of the facility. You are accompanied by a group of site guides about three or more, the guides are used to the animals so having them on-board is very helpful.

The guides will take you through the behavior of the animals, their feeding times, their diet and more information about the behavioral patterns of the wildlife as well as the importance of the conservation center.  You will have an opportunity to interact and take photos with the young lions of about three to six months, in addition to the lions you will see wildlife including Zebras, Impalas, Chameleons, Bat eared foxes, Tortoises, Donkeys, baby crocodiles, Iguana, African Grey Parrots, snakes and other animals. The conservation center is a great place with stunning landscape views of the Ugandan countryside.

In the afternoon you start the journey to Kayabwe a town center situated just before Masaka town, this is where the Equator Monument is located. At the Equator monument you will have an opportunity to take photos and have an experience of standing in between Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere.

There are craft shops at the trading center so you are free to move around, take photos and look through some handmade crafts for sale. The time spent at the Equator monument can be between 30 minutes – 1 hour depending on your interests, after this you start the journey back to Kampala. Your driver guide will drop you off in Kampala as you end your one day tour. Expected time of arrival to Kampala is 5:00 pm but we always advise that you put in expectation of arriving after 5 on days when there is a lot of traffic in Kampala.
